Today Crookhorn College travelled to Chichester University to take part in their annual literacy festival, 'LitFest'.

The day was split up into three sessions, giving students the choice to pick from multiple lectures to attend. These included talks based on Shakespeare’s world, as well as science-fiction and fantasy writing classes.

The first session attended by our students focused on comics as literature and explored the differences between graphics novels and traditional comic books.

Following this, students listened to the harrowing adventures of author and documentarian Matt Dickinson, about his exploration and journey to the summit of Mt Everest, as part of his author’s talk. During the talk, Matt described the mental and physical limits he faced when climbing the mountain and how the experience helped him write his own series of books. 

Our third and final lecture tasked our students to create a character from the description of someone’s shoes and focused on the importance and power of adding details, as part of a creative writing workshop.

All the students that attended the University’s event thoroughly enjoyed themselves today. The event was organised to give students a taste of higher education at the University, as well as to stretch and expand their writing skills.
