Young geographers race to the South Pole at Crookhorn

On Friday, fifty Year 4 children from Morelands, Mill Hill and Bidbury primary schools spent the morning at Crookhorn, exploring the Polar regions' as part of workshop, lead by our Geography department.

After identifying the differences between the Arctic and Antarctica they mapped, researched and analysed the first race to the South Pole. Identifying the key winning and losing strategies and understanding the reasons for the choices made by Scott and Amundsen. Finally, some of the pupils had the chance to dress up as explorers in traditional cotton and wool clothing with backpacks to see how Scott and his team might have prepared for their expedition! The next generation of explorers taking their first steps!

The event was fabulously supported by a team of Year 9 Geography Ambassadors who were praised widely by the visiting staff.
