Y7&8 trip to Winchester Cathedral

On Monday 9th February, 39 students from Year 7 & 8 spent the day exploring Winchester Cathedral.

The students had a tour of the Cathedral, learning about its history and religious importance, going back to the time of the Romans. They were also lucky enough to see the Helios art installation by Luke Jarram, which is currently residing in the Cathedral. The students attended a workshop on the ‘Life of a Monk’, which involved some dressing up! The Cathedral had a monastery until 1539 and the students learnt about their daily life, chores and how to manage when eating together in silence! Finally, after lunch, students had the opportunity to ask questions about life as a Christian to Canon Justin. The students really put him through his paces, asking questions such as: ‘Does being a Christian make you happier?’ ‘What inspired you the most to become a Christian?’ and ‘Is Jesus real?’. Canon Justin tried to answer as many questions as possible, helping students understand how his faith shapes his life.

As always, the students were an absolute credit to the College.

Here's what some of our students had to say about their experience:

I enjoyed seeing the Cathedral and hearing/learning about the stories of the history of the Cathedral.

I enjoyed dressing up as a monk and swinging incense in the thurible.

The trip to Winchester Cathedral was amazing. We learnt about the history, myths and legends. Staff members were really nice and helped us. We had the opportunity to explore Christian culture and even learn sign language to order a meal. An outstanding trip, I highly recommend it
