Parent Information
Our careers programme is designed to help every student make informed choices about their future. It provides guidance, experiences, and tools to prepare them for life after college – whether that’s further education, apprenticeships, or employment.
Key Features
1. Careers Education
- Delivered from Year 7 onwards.
- Includes lessons, workshops, and employer encounters.
- Helps students understand different pathways: academic, vocational, and technical.
2. Personal Guidance Meetings
- Every student will have one-to-one careers guidance meetings with a qualified adviser.
- These meetings take place when deciding GCSE subjects and post-16 pathways.
- We work closely with Hampshire Futures to provide impartial, expert advice.
3. Work Experience
- All students will complete a minimum of two weeks of work experience (usually in Year 10).
- This gives them real-world insight into the workplace and helps develop essential skills like communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
- We encourage parents to support by helping students find placements and discussing what they have learnt.
4. Unifrog Platform
- Unifrog is our online careers tool.
Students can:
- Explore careers and university courses.
- Compare apprenticeships and training options.
- Build CVs and record achievements.
- Use the Placement Tool for work experience forms.
Parents can access Unifrog too. Ask your child to log in and explore the site together.
How Parents Can Help
- Talk to your child about their interests and aspirations. More information can be found on the ‘How parents can help’ link for each year group.
- Encourage them to use Unifrog regularly.
- Support them in finding work experience placements.
- Attend careers events and information evenings at College.
