Cultural exchange at Crookhorn

Last week, we welcomed our second group of visitors from China, and it was an incredibly enjoyable and enriching experience for everyone involved.

Our 33 visiting students were paired with Crookhorn buddies from Years 7–10 and quickly settled into college life. After a welcome presentation, icebreakers and a tour from our Student Senior Team, they joined their buddies in lessons, Tutor Time, assemblies and a range of activities throughout the week. The five accompanying staff also spent time visiting lessons across different subject areas.

Extracurricular highlights included a Spanish taster, a library scavenger hunt, a table tennis tournament, toy-train making in the workshop, and even a chance for five of our visitors to join the Drama trip to see 'Dear England' at Chichester Festival Theatre!

On Thursday afternoon, our visitors were joined by students from all Year Groups for a lively Q&A session, covering everything from family life and hobbies to culture, geography and education. The Main Hall was buzzing with curiosity and connection—they could have talked for hours! We ended the week with a very British afternoon tea and a celebration of the wonderful friendships formed.

Our Crookhorn buddies were outstanding, and our visitors received an exceptionally warm welcome from the whole College community. It was heartwarming to see how eager the students were to learn from one another, and the goodbyes on Friday were emotional for many.

We’re already looking forward to welcoming our next group in the summer term!
