Y9 Catering masterclass with Nadia Arab
On Monday, we were pleased to invite 20 of our Year 9 students to take part in a hands-on Catering Masterclass, led by chef and educator Nadia Arab.
Throughout the day, students learnt how to make chicken curries and chapatis from scratch, developing practical cooking skills and exploring the flavours of Indian and Pakistani cuisine. All ingredients were generously provided by Waitrose, allowing students to focus fully on learning and creativity in the kitchen.
Nadia brings a strong personal connection to her cooking. Her parents ran a successful Indian cookery school in the 1980s, sharing their passion for food with the local community. Many of the recipes taught during the masterclass are part of this family tradition, which Nadia now continues alongside her mother.
Alongside her work as a full-time college teacher, Nadia also teaches Indian and Pakistani cookery, helping to bring these recipes into the community through engaging, practical lessons.
The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience, gaining confidence, new skills, and an insight into Indian and Pakistani cuisine. We would like to thank Nadia Arab for delivering such an inspiring session, and Waitrose for their support in making the day possible.
“It was so nice to meet a group of enthusiastic pupils all willing to give it a try and taste new flavours whilst being inspired.”
