Portsmouth Music Festival 2023

On the evening of Friday 24th February, Mr Armstrong and Mrs Miles accompanied 16 of our Year 10 and 11 Music students at the Portsmouth Music Festival which took place in the theatre at Park Community School. This event gave our students the opportunity to perform and compete against bands from other local schools and to also receive feedback from a semi-professional musician. In addition to this, each band received a ‘Distinction’ for their performance, a certificate along with the written feedback and some students/bands even walked away with awards!

Mr Armstrong says ‘I am immensely proud of all of them for having the guts to take part in this event, and they were an absolute credit to the College. The highlight for me was seeing Xander's face when he was awarded ‘Best Keyboard Player’! The other awards that our students were presented with are Katie – ‘Best Bassist’, Flo and Emily – ‘Best Duo’, Sydnie – ‘Best Vocalist’ and finally Henery, Grace, Chloe, Katie, Lauren, Harriet & Lilly were awarded ‘Best Band’!’

Here are some quotes from the students:

Lilly said:
“I thought the Portsmouth music festival was a good opportunity to perform are songs, but it was also good for us to get some feedback on what we need to improve on for our next performance. It was also great to see what other people can do so that we can get inspiration for are next song.”

Chloe said:
“I really loved this event! We got to make so many friends with other bands and also listen to each and every one of them, it was one of the funniest things I’ve done. I loved how there were trophies for not only groups but individuals as well, and we got feedback on our performance and was graded which will be really helpful for the future, I can’t wait to do it next year!”

Sydnie said:
“I have never experienced a performance like last night, I enjoyed watching the bands from other schools and seeing their talent! I’m so glad I got to take part in Portsmouth music festival in my last year representing Crookhorn, it truly was amazing!”
