Independent Study
At Crookhorn College, independent study plays an essential role in helping students achieve their full potential.
Throughout the year, there are three formal exam windows, and students are expected to revise thoroughly ahead of each one. In the three weeks leading up to these exams, teachers will set structured revision tasks to be completed at home, which are vital in helping students consolidate their learning and prepare effectively. In addition, students—particularly those in Year 11 and Year 10 early entry—will be set revision tasks every week to ensure knowledge is regularly revisited and strengthened. At other points in the year, homework will also be set to reinforce classroom learning and develop strong study habits.
All revision tasks and supporting materials will be available on itslearning, making it the central hub for independent study. Students can access a wide range of resources, including revision guides, practice questions, and teacher guidance, to support their preparation. This allows students to work independently and take greater ownership of their progress. Parents can support their child by encouraging regular use of itslearning, helping them to organise a consistent study routine, and checking that work is completed carefully and on time.
To further support independent study, Study Club is available every evening, offering a quiet and focused environment for students to complete their work. Staff are available to provide guidance and support where needed, making this an excellent opportunity for students who may benefit from extra help or structure. Parents can play a key role by encouraging attendance at Study Club, showing interest in their child’s learning, and maintaining open communication about their progress. By working together, we can help students develop the independence, confidence, and resilience they need to succeed.
study Club
This runs every weekday for every year group in a computer room. This is a fantastic opportunity for your child to get further support and guidance from a member of staff whilst using the 'itslearning' system. If you would like your child to attend on any day, please send your child after College straight to their allocated classroom and if you have any further questions, please contact James.collins@crookhorn.hants.sch.uk
