Year 8 take part in Futbol Lingo

This afternoon, our Year 8 students took part in Futbol Lingo; an event that incorporated French and Spanish with Football.

As part of the event, Pierce Kiembi, a coach from Burnley Football Club came in to speak to our students about his career with languages and how important foreign languages can be in football. He shared how foreign languages are used to translate between different Premier League players and how many international players need to know more than one language.

As well as the presentation, students got to take part in two practical PE lessons, where they got to practice either their French or Spanish, while playing indoor football. Throughout the matches, our Year 8s had to run over to a whiteboard and write down a work or phrase in French or Spanish, used in football, to score their team additional goals.

All the students that participated in these activities thoroughly enjoyed the alternative take on the game and loved learning about how a second language could open up a number of future career paths they didn't realise were possible.

Thank you to Pierce for visiting the College and coaching today and to our Modern Foreign Languages department for organising the event.
